This module introduces coaching and action learning as approaches nurse leaders and managers can use to promote leadership development among individual team members and within the team. It describes how coaching and action learning work and their potential benefits and challenges. It explains how the two approaches can be used to underpin effective problem-solving and goal setting, and support nurses in their professional development. Learning aims and intended outcomes After completing this module and the time out activities, you should be able to: Explain how coaching and action learning align with effective leadership development for individuals and teams. Understand the principles and potential benefits of coaching and action learning. Describe how coaching works, including goal setting and scaling. Describe the action learning process and the characteristics of action learning sets. Compare and contrast coaching and action learning and determine whether they could suit the development needs of your team and team members.
